Lent 2018 Events
Ash Wednesday Dinner
February 14th 6:00pm
Our church has a tradition of having a special dinner on Ash Wednesday evening. The dinner will be held on February 14th at 6:00 pm in our Fellowship hall. Fish will be on the menu as well as wonderful macaroni and cheese dishes for those who do not like fish. A sign-up sheet is on the Narthex bulletin board.
Ash Wednesday Worship Service
February 14th 7:30pm
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. We celebrate this day with a communion worship service that reminds us of the quotation: ‘ashes to ashes, dust to dust,’ which serves to remind us of Jesus’ death, our own mortality, and the fact that with Jesus we have the promise of eternal life. Our worship service will be held on February 14th at 7:30 pm in our church sanctuary.
Lenten Video Bible Study
Pastor Dale Reese will be leading a six-week Bible Study called The Prodigal God based on curriculum developed by Rev. Timothy Keller. Timothy Keller is a powerful teacher of the word of God serving a church in New York City. Keller developed the study and book using the character traits seen in the Prodigal Son story of Jesus. Keller is an excellent writer and his illustrations help the reader grasp what was going on during the culture when Jesus was walking on this earth. Pastor Dale will use a short introduction video clip developed by Timothy Keller, then we will discuss such notes about the Father (who represents God that is abundant in showing grace and love), the young brother (who runs away and is spiritually empty), and finally the older brother (morally upright). The study will be Thursday evenings at 7:00pm, beginning on February 15th, and Sundays at 11:45am beginning on February 18th.
